Dugcast – 26 September 2019

Today’s dugcast is a day early because tomorrow (Friday) the dug and I are off to Arran. I’m giving a talk about the history of Scottish languages in the Ormidale Pavilion in Brodick. Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. I’m really looking forward to a Brexit free evening! If you’re on Arran and fancy hearing about Scotland’s languages, please come along.

In this week’s dugcast, The National’s Stewart Ward and I discuss the Supreme Court ruling this week, a bad tempered couple of days in Parliament, and the impact upon chances for an independence referendum.

Great talk last night in Arran. Fascinating insight into the rich history of Scotland’s languages. Thanks for coming to the island to give us such an enthralling evening, Paul. You and Ginger are welcome back any time.

Never do your opponents work for them…it’s like punching yourself in the face for them.

    Scotland IS NOT Catalonia.
Never give that argument credence because it will come back at you. Scotland has a constitutional case in the Act of Union that Catalonia doesn’t. Catalonia has to rely on more indirect rights that are harder to enforce.

    SECTION 30
S30 is not the rolled gold version of INDY.
It is only one option and Cameron finally agreed to it for the reasons that it places conditions on any referendum.

    ONCE IN A GENERATION
WTAF. How is any YES giving this point oxygen.
The world of 2014 no longer exists – Brexit has broken the normal time line and it was Westminster itself who broke it.
No YES should ever give that credence and particularly to only repeat the Westminster talking point that is a selective quote. The quote is a “Once in a Generation OPPORTUNITY”…..Not – once in a Generation event.

YES needs to start realising it is playing against a crazed bully. You need to stop pretending Unionist aare not a centuries old global pillaging empire. Scotland acts like it is special in that “England as Briton” won’t do to them what they did to the rest of their empire. Well get buckled in because they are about to turn that even on English who don’t toe the line….Scotland…they have already told you how they will treat you.

Play it straight – play it honest – but play it smart.
